New York and New Jersey are gearing up to host the biggest party on the planet, culminating in the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium on July 19, 2026. Whether you’re flying in from Europe or taking a train down the East Coast, navigating the NYC metro area can be intimidating.

Here is your command center for surviving and thriving in the Big Apple during the tournament.

Getting to MetLife Stadium

MetLife Stadium is technically located in East Rutherford, New Jersey. Do not make the rookie mistake of thinking you can just walk there from Manhattan!

  • NJ Transit Rail: This is the gold standard for game day. Trains will run continuously from Penn Station (Manhattan) to Secaucus Junction. The trip takes about 20-30 minutes.
  • The Coach USA Bus: Express buses will run from the Port Authority Bus Terminal directly to the stadium.
  • Rideshares: Unless you have VIP parking passes, avoid Ubers and Lyfts on match days. The surge pricing and tunnel traffic will drain your wallet and your sanity.

Official Fan Fest Locations

FIFA and the city have set up massive outdoor viewing parties. Even if you don’t have a ticket to the match, the atmosphere here will be electric.

“The energy in New York during a World Cup is unmatched. You have diaspora communities from all 48 competing nations packed into five boroughs. Every match feels like a home game for someone.”

Top Spots to Watch:

  1. Central Park Fan Fest: The flagship viewing area with massive screens, food trucks, and live music. Get there at least three hours early for high-profile matches.
  2. Liberty State Park: Offers incredible views of the Manhattan skyline with plenty of green space. Ideal for families.
  3. Astoria ‘Little World’: Queens is the most diverse borough in the world. Walk down any street in Astoria or Jackson Heights, and you’ll find pubs overflowing with passionate fans.

Insider Tips

Make sure you download the MTA (OMNY) app to tap-to-pay for the subway using your phone. Cash is practically useless for transit now. Also, remember that humidity in NYC during June and July can be brutal—hydrate constantly and dress light!
