Senegal
African champions and serious World Cup contenders. Mané remains world-class despite moving from Europe's biggest clubs; Mendy is one of the world's elite goalkeepers; Koulibaly leads one of Africa's most organised defences. Senegal's combination of physical and technical qualities makes them dangerous for any opponent at this level.

★ Tournament Lore
Senegal reached the 2002 World Cup quarter-finals on their first-ever appearance — one of the great tournament debut stories.
They won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 (played 2022) in a final on penalties against bitter rivals Egypt.
Former manager Aliou Cissé played in that 2002 squad and was the longest-serving national team coach in Africa before departing in late 2024.
